Radio 2SSR

2SSR is proud to announce it's once again providing live broadcasts of the Southern Districts Rugby Home Games at Forshaw Park.

With the experience of Peter Campbell, the anchor man, calling the home games as 2SSR’s commentator since 2003, listeners and visitors to Forshaw Park are in for a treat – because in his words ‘we’re looking forward to a strong season in 2008’ ….. along with the convivial atmosphere generated by the club’s loyal supporters.’

2SSR is keen to interview other union savvy/passionate people who believe they have a flare for calling a game and are prepared to be a contributor to the broadcast. Contact may be made through any of the telephone numbers and / or addresses listed below.

So be there at the next Home Game and take along your radio tuned into 99.7FM to see and listen to the best of Southern Districts Rugby Home games.

I am a long-term rugby fan, having seen many grade, provincial and test matches over the last 30 years. I can remember when a person taking a mark needed both feet on the ground, and Trevor Allan provided expert commentary every Saturday afternoon in winter on the ABC. Despite this, I still have no idea of the reasons for most scrum penalties, and am glad to have never been at the bottom of a ruck.

I have been calling the Southern Districts home games on 2SSR since 2003, during which time we’ve shared with the Rebels the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. There have been some mighty victories as wells as significant losses. We’re looking forward to a strong season in 2008, but win or lose we’ll always enjoy the convivial atmosphere generated by the club’s loyal supporters.

My favourite rugby memories involve attending the 1984 Grand Slam victories at Lansdowne Road and Cardiff Arms Park, and in particular going on to the field at the end of the Welsh game to souvenir some of the turf where Australia scored a pushover try (the earliest sign that Australia was developing a forward pack that could ultimately dominate rugby and win the World Cup).
