Steve Peters - Club Captain

Steve Peters - Club Captain

Club Captain Roles & Responsibilities
  • To foster and encourage club spirit and player enthusiasm

  • To co-ordinate the flow of information between and within players, the social and touring committees as well as the Directors of the club. This means being a sitting member at most social, touring and players meetings or in the case of absence having a delegated committee member keeping him well updated. It is not the Club’s Captain job to take notes at committee meetings. Another committee member should chair each of the committees.

  • To be actively involved in the logistics of club based events and functions as well as home game activities.

  • Be a point of contact for all members, players and visitors of the club. Any queries, questions, problems or praises should be openly accepted and forwarded to the appropriate person in the club.

In doing so it is expected that the club captain will:

  • Lead the players committee (from the committee, a chairperson will then be elected who will take and distribute meeting minutes on captains behalf)

  • Be a sitting member of the social committee

  • Keep record of scores and '3' point winners at a home game (or delegate to someone else) to report back during speeches.

  • Deliver and coordinate after match speeches / formalities.

  • Be highly visible i.e. attend most social functions and be prepared to socialise within many groups.

  • Help board members and volunteers where possible (or delegate to other players) at home games.

Recommendations:

  • Club captain, assisted by the players and social committees should lead a players meeting once a month / fortnight

  • It is vital that this meeting be conducted at the first 15 min of a training session and be supported by ALL grades (after training meetings rarely work as people disappear)

  • Players meetings should address upcoming social commitments, general house keeping, and pass on messages from the board. In this respect the club captain should liaise with the Director of Rugby to obtain such information. Players meetings should be well organised and develop into something that the players look forward to.

  • The club captain should be enlisted to write a "Captain's Column" to be published in Rebel News monthly.
