6 Try Trial Vs Norths

The goal for the club this year across colts and grade is to have four or five teams contesting the grand finals. Lots of work has been done behind the scenes by many to make this goal a reality. It is now our focus to keep this playing group together. Any number of players aspiring to play first grade in colts or senior grade will need to remain patient and committed until their opportunity arises. We need the lower grades to set the platform for many successful days both home and away.Vs Northern SuburbsWith the poxy weather over the past three weeks, the possibility of a final trial match prior to the first round looked doubtful. After great work during the summer by our GM and staff, the back field held up really well for the shortened trials against Norths. The colts had a good hit out over three 30 minute sectorsIn grade we were only able to give thirds, seconds and firsts a run. Thirds was a mixed bag of players who we needed to give a run and have a good look at. Whilst they went down three tries to one there was nothing disappointing about their performance. With many players being tested in different positions really stood up and were very good.Again a number of new players appeared in second grade. The result was four tries each. All players performed well against a committed North outfit.First GradeFirst grade won six tries to nil with wonderful performances by each and every player that took the field. And yes, Norths were last years Shute Shield champions. The defence was probably the best I have witnessed for many years. There will be some sore and sorry Norths players. We now have to emulate this performance right throughout the season.Don’t be left disappointed, get down to Forshaw this week as we take on the very strong Many Marlins. As a final comment, all I can say it if you miss any Souths game this year, you will be bitterly disappointed with yourself. Let's make 2017 a time to put club rugby front and centre. Get down to Forshaw for all four grades, you will be treated to four outstanding displays of rugby.CheersKen McKayDirector of Rugby
