Colts Trial 16th March- match reports
The 2013 #onebetter colts hosted a rejuvinated Two Blues from Parramatta in 3 grades of colts today on the very green Forshaw Number II field. In very hot conditions the games were played in great spirit and suprisingly fast and open play was the order of the day. The 3rds started the day well showing glimpses of promise for a season ahead with some good continuity early but faded toward the end.The final score was Parra 3 tries- South's 2 tries. Good games by all and a special thanks to the Sylvania under 17s who came along for a trial and played the second half and learned some valuable lessons as well as showing some good skills. Full credit to a strong Parra 3rd colts- they worked really well at the tackle contest and competed for every ball . 2nd colts also started well and contained a very structured parra side all the way to the fulltime whistle. Parra running away with the result 4 tries to 2 and deserved a well boosted win.It was an arm wrestle right up to the final 5 minutes when Parra ran in a couple of late tries. Well done the Two Blues 1st colts was a story of 2 halves. the first half the young rebels played some great rugby- both forwards and back combining well to lay on 5 converted tries to nil . The coaches would have been pleased with the comitment to patterns and sequences with some fine efforts by Ben Ryan( open side flanker) Ben Arnold( fly half) and Trent Winterstien( outside centre) but it was so pleasing to see Jerome Raru play so well in his new position of front row. The second half saw the Rebels defence challenged for over 10 minutes of continual pressure from the Two Blues and the lads resisted every charge. However a number of key positional changes through injuries saw Parra cross for 3 tries ( one converted ) and the final score of 35-19. Overall it was a great day for rugby- weather, fast field for rugby and some dedicated and commited young lads both from Parramatta and our young Rebels.Additionally credit where credit is due- Parra have worked hard on their colts program and it was so pleasing to see not only the lads here but family and friends travel to the Shire, We wish them a safe and rewarding season in all 3 grades of Colts. I will wait for a full report from the grade trial but i have been informed that Parra were too strong in 2nds, 3rds and 4ths but the Rebels in 1sts were far too dominate - winning around 11 tries to 3 in a comprehensive display of fast running rugby. More to come as soon as we get the wash up.
