Game Preview - Round 1 2019
By Samuel Lindsayvs West harbour (H)We've made it through another long and arduous off season, and we're raring to go as the Intrust Super Shute Shield returns! The squad have been training since October and have been building to this moment for a long time. New coach Don Mackinnon has brought in plenty of fresh faces in the coaching ranks along with a huge influx of Colts. There seems to be an energy floating around Forshaw that hasn't been felt before, conjoin that with our 30th season celebrations, Back to Port Hacking Day and Family Fun events, round 1 is shaping up to be an absolute ripper of a day. We have a host of debutantes making their way into the starting lineup. James Wayland, Sama Malolo, Nathan Lawson are instantly promoted from 1st Colts. Jake Kay, son of former Rebel Peter, will start against his former club having made the switch over summer. Harry McLennan grabs the number 8 jersey, as co-captain Marcus Carbone slots into lock for the opening round. Apaola TeaLama who mysteriously arrives at the club a few weeks ago, has impressed enough to grab a starting jersey while Ben Connolly returns having missed much of 2018. Dewet Roos and Apolosi Latunipulu also come back into the side after an injury free off-season, we'll be looking at this pair to return to their best. West Harbour will arrive as a relative unknown given their off-season movement. Their first grade team is uncomparable to last year. Having fallen to the Pirates twice in 2018 there is a strong case for redemption this time around. While the main event will be taking place on the pitch, there's plenty of other reasons to get to Forshaw this Saturday. We're offering free entry before 11.30am. We're celebrating our heritage with Back to Port Hacking Day. Our local minis from our village junior club will be entertaining us before 1st Grad. Games2U will be setting up on the backfield offering $5 video games, laser tag and bumper balls from 3pm to 5pm. We'll have $10 meals in the clubhouse from 5pm along with "Critta & Rids" performing live from 6pm until 9pm. Now that's a big day and one you won't want to miss! SDRC TEAM NEWS Starting Line-up1.
