Match review vs. Parramatta
Southern Districts have bounced back from a string of disappointing losses to record a 60-12 win over Parramatta on Saturday. In wet conditions, the Rebels dominated from the opening whistle scoring nine tries, with Luke Smart, Lopeti Timani and Ben Volavola all picking up doubles. The home side found the attacking flair that took them to last years Grand Final and showed cohesion that has been missing for much of this season. After a number of disappointing performances, Cam Blades was excited with his sides efforts. "In wet conditions, to score nine tries is pretty impressive. We had one or two disallowed so it really could have been a much bigger score." "Our set piece really dominated this week and bounced back. We scored a number of tries off the back of a very dominant scrum," Blades said. The coach credited his forward pack. "Luke Smart scored two very handy tries. He was the dominant player on the field." "Steve Fualau was outstanding at hooker, as was Jed Holloway. I thought Rohan (Saifoloi) got our attack going well." Blades was thrilled to see some of his 'big guns' firing. "Our bigger name players are beginning to become a bit more consistent for us, so that leaves a real challenge for the rest of the group to match that consistency." Blades emptied his bench late in the second half, giving a number of players vital first grade experience. "That probably mucked up our cohesion a little, but it's something you need to do in a game like that and those players will be better for it in the future." Despite the 48 point win, Blades was still disappointed with the two tries conceded. "I was a little dissapointed. At least one of the tries came from a defensive lapse. We missed two tackles and they got in behind us." "We noticed last year that sometimes it can be easy to concede points in games like this on the back of how hard you are attacking." The Rebels now sit third on the Shute Shield ladder, however with just two points separating third and sixth place, next weeks match against Warringah is crucial. By Sam Ryan.
