Colts Update January 2020
The first training session for 2020 is now completed. Let me tell you that the scope of training and intensity has gone up another level, with still a few more levels to reach before the first trial. The players enthusiasm and commitment to hard work is inspiring and makes all the weeks of planning worthwhile You can have all the up to date training methods and sports science but if the players effort is not there then it's a dead duck. The GPS data is supporting what we see. That the effort is huge and fitness will not be a weak link in 2020 for Grade or Colts.
The beauty of the the program created by Todd Louden and Jarryd Knapp is that the players do not actually realise how hard they are training. They are not doing a bunch of 400m, 800m runs and 100m sprints, it's all game specific with full contact and plenty of rip and tear. It is really good to get over the Xmas hump and now we can discuss this year. Trials start early March, so the clock is ticking to be ready. With the management and implementation of training schedules by Todd with his coaching, S&C and managers, we will ready to go like a Melbourne Cup winner.
We have been going since end October and the colts players look great in their REDS Academy training tops and shorts. We look like a group of rugby players and the boys really stand out on the training paddock. It is the same with our JEDS Academy who are our junior group of players in their blue tops and shorts, they look great! We would not be looking so sharp and feeling like a team, if not for the support of the club and some great sponsors being O’Connor Electrical and Midon Constructions. Peter O’Connor has been a long term supporter of our Colts program and we cannot say thank you enough times. Midon Constructions contributed to the program this year and all up, this allowed us to purchase our training gear, as well as shorts, caps and extra tops. They train 3 times a week in the middle of summer so to have the extra tops has been a massive help to the players.
University of Wollongong support gets stronger and stronger each year and this year we have Sports Science students helping with capturing training data and the Science of physical fitness. We are also focussing on wellbeing (delivered by Joel Curtis) and life skills (delivered by Ian Bond), now part of the training program for our men and women. Sledge Strength is run by Carl Sledge. Carl is the Colts lead S&C trainer and we thank him for what he done not only as S&C coach but his generous donations to help the REDS and JEDS group plus helping players with extra fitness and strength training.
Lastly to Wallaby Services and Packaging Materials who have supplied us with essential packaging materials such as stretch film, tape, boxes and plastic bags so we can keep everything together and packed away nicely. If you need packaging materials, get in touch.
To finish up i would like to thank the player parents for entrusting their sons and daughters rugby hopes, ambitions and enjoyment to Southern Districts. It is something we all take very seriously. If you can support our sponsors in anyway, please do. We are a family club who support each other.
