From The President & Treasurer

The 2020 season will be an exciting time down at Southern Districts.

As a result of a review of the past two seasons performances and the evolution of the Shute Shield competition to an almost professional environment, we have responded by developing a professional rugby program under the supervision of Todd Louden. Todd brings to the club a high level of expertise in the professional rugby environment. His brief is to implement and manage professional programs across the whole of club. The creation of real and relevant rugby programs allows us to attract and retain players. The programs across rugby in the area include a junior development, colts, grade and coaching development.

It is not only about developing rugby but also about developing good men and women. To this end, there have also been many and varied lifestyle and wellbeing sessions covering a wide aspect of topics including mental health, nutrition, CV writing, job interview techniques and the like. These sessions will continue throughout the season. The best judges of Todds success are the players and coaches who I interact with a number of times a week. I have had nothing but positive comments from the group.

There is a new culture of emotional and physical buy right across the program.

Remember this is year one of our new program, but I am positive that under Todd's direction and hard work by all those involved in the coaching and management of rugby, we will see great improvements, and the club will be on the rise.

The Board has been working hard also in a number of other areas recently, including the development of a strategic plan to support changes needed at the Club to ensure its ongoing success and we are in a few key partnership discussions which we are confident of having some positive news on in the coming weeks.

Around the grounds, the fields are looking great and thanks to the players raising funds at a Bunnings BBQ and through the assistance of Scotts Kitchens, we have been able to upgrade the change room recently.

Looking forward to seeing as many members and supporters as possible down at the grounds this season.

The Club entered this season in a strong financial position with profits from operations having recently increased year on year - positioning us with the highest level of cash at bank for some time. With the Board looking to invest more in support of its Strategic Plan, we need to continue the drive to improve revenue opportunities (sponsorship, membership, game day takings etc.) to offset a projected higher level of spend.

Your ongoing support is fundamental to the Club's endeavour to position itself as a competitive force in the Shute Shield.
