Max talks Souths Vs Manly
We got up 46 -10 (8 tries to 2) goal kicking was a problem because a very strong wind, which was a big advantage to the team playing with it's assistance.
With the wind in the first half South's managed to lead 32 nil, with a very good effort in the second half into the wind holding Manly to 2 tries and scoring 2 themselves!
Again what was apparent was this new found attitude in the players that were selected on the day, it seems that win or lose and no matter who is out there the boys are determined to just have a go!!!
In this game we were very strong at the breakdown and indeed all the collisions, we surely won this part of the game with all the forwards doing their bit in this area, with serious contributions from Callum Reilly and Sean Doyle.
The front row of Marcus Heather, Dalton Dimitty and Duncan Chubb was dominant with an outstanding performance from the ever improving Marcus, his improvement during the back end of last year, through the off season to now is a joy to behold for any old frontrower believe me.
In the backs Ben Connelly was again a hand full taking the the opportunities that were proved to him using his size and speed bagging 2 tries, the improvement shown by this player is apparent and will be of real benifit to the club if he is able to maintain the progress.
As well in the backs Josh Gamgee at 10 again showed how important experience and leadership is, on a day where the elements were not favorable at all to execution, he guided the team with much composure and guile.
Next week as everyone knows we play our round 1 match against Eastwood which will be a tough one!
Our information to date is telling us that a few teams have lost some players and might struggle a little early, these being Gordon,Warringah and Randwick, one thing is for sure Eastwood will be strong so first up we must role our sleeves up because it will be a task beating them at Milner.
On the bright side we will welcome back for this game a number of players to be considered for selection that have been involved in other programs up to now they include, Nick Seymour (Hooker), Ben Schrieber (Outside Back), Rohan Saifolio (Fullback), Apo Latinpulu (Centre), Luke Smart (Lock), Tetra Falkner (Prop) Lapeti Tamani (Backrower), Ryan Shortland (Outside Back) Rome Nifo (Lock), Ben Vola Vola (Five Eight) and possibly John Ulugia (Hooker/Prop) depending on his endeavours with the Waratahs in which we wish him well and Grayson Hart (Half Back) depending on his recovery from a hand injury, this should help give the selectors a few headaches.
See you all at Milner and don't forget the luncheon on the 8th of April at the club and a chat with Wendell Sailor (should be fun) Also the McLeish Estate Golf day on Sunday the 10th of April at Crown Plaza golf course in the Hunter Valley then lunch at Bob and Maryanne's McLeish Estate.
